Project: GVSU Dining Commons
This project consists of a new dining commons as well as the renovation of the lower level of the existing building, including 4 new service venues and a complete renovation of the dining room. All work was completed while the space was occupied. The project is built using sustainable practices with 27% MBE / WBE / DBE participation.
Pioneer Construction was asked to take an existing facility that was over 20 years old and give it an entire face lift. All of the surface materials throughout the area were removed, the locker rooms, men’s and women’s, were gutted, resulting in an entire design for these areas. The biggest challenge facing the architect as well as Pioneer was to add a 20’ x 10’ steam room in the men’s locker room within the existing space. Pioneer and Grooch Design not only met this challenge but exceeded all expectations by creating additional walls and raising the level of the floor. the Health Facilities serve over 400 members as well as daily use by the guests of the hotel. The entire project took less than three months from start to finish.
