Metro Health Hospital Finished

Project: Metro Health Hospital

TOTAL COST: $798,000
SUPERVISION: Doug Irvine, Jr., Jason Wohlford and Aaron Penland

In July 2005, Metropolitan Hospital began construction of a new Hospital located in the heart of the Metro Health Village in Wyoming, Michigan.  This 208 bed, 8 story hospital is "state of the art" and brings a top-notch health care facility to the south side of Grand Rapids.

Brigade Fire was proud to be part of the construction team chosen to build such a facility.  Design and installation of this project was a challenge right from the beginning.  An aggressive schedule and complex above ceiling mechanical systems required Brigade's design and installation teams to constantly coordinate in order to find the best fire protection solution.

The sprinklers system at this facility contains wet, dry, pre-action and standpipe systems.  There are over 3,901 sprinklers and 46,000 ft of pipe.  That's over 8 miles of pipe.  A 1,000 gpm, 100 psi pump was installed to boost the water pressure for this large of a project.  There are over 7,000 gallons of water in the sprinkler system.  The standpipe systems contain 57-2 ½ hose valves.  It took over 2,000 design hours and 12,000 installation hours to complete this project.
